SERVICE MUSIC FOR THE NEW ROMAN MISSAL
For the next few weeks, we will take a few minutes before weekend masses to rehearse assembly parts of a new mass setting, “Mass of Christ the Savior”, by Dan Schutte (composer of Here I Am, Lord, Sing a New Song, and many other liturgical songs). This is in preparation for the introduction of the new English translation of the Roman Missal which will be implemented in the USA on November 27th, the 1st Sunday of Advent. To facilitate the introduction of the people’s sung parts of the mass ordinary which will have a new translation (Gloria, Holy, Memorial Acclamation), Bishop Kmiec has granted permission for those parts to be sung within the liturgy prior to November 27. After a few weeks of pre-mass rehearsal we will begin singing them within the mass, and gradually add other sung parts from the same new setting whose translations have not changed (Kyrie, Alleluia, Amen, Lamb of God). Later this autumn, a parish-wide presentation/workshop on the entire new translation of the mass will be held. Watch the bulletin for further details
