Eastern Erie Vicariate
VICARIATE NEWS
Week 4. This is the last of four articles concerning our Vicariate. Other important ways of communication were discussed. The group of lay vicariate members at January’s meeting is considering a survey, for each parish. We all know that the internet is fast becoming a great way to reach many homes, so we are working on that with the downtown office. We will also try to get articles in both our local papers and the Buffalo News. We will not forget the local parishioners who read their parish bulletin so all news events will be HERE.
Week 3. This is the third week of four concerning our Vicariate. At our first meeting in September we agreed our four directions will be Worship, Education, Community Service and Communication. We also agreed that we need to be able to communicate with each other to carry on the other three. So for our January meeting Susan Lankes from the Diocese came to help. She passed out guidelines and helped us come up with ideas. One idea was to have this series of articles in all 21 parish bulletins.
WEEK 2. This is the second week of four about the Eastern Erie Vicariate. The Vicariates have the following Mission: To spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ; to forward the growth of the Church; to strengthen Church services to our communities.
Following are Purposes: To share ideas across parish lines. To identify needs that are larger than individual parishes, but found in individual parishes. To be a communications link between the Diocesan Pastoral Council and parishes. The minutes from both of these sessions are sent to the Bishop. During the next two weeks, we will give some details on what we at the Eastern Vicariate have been doing.
WEEK 1. This is the first of a 4-week description of what the ‘EASTERN ERIE VICARIATE IS”: The Diocese of Buffalo has been divided into 12 Vicariates. We are called the Eastern Erie Vicariate. The priest in charge is called the “Vicar”. Father Thomas Quinlivan, the pastor of Queen of Heaven, is our Vicar. The Vicariate has two groups — a clergy – (priests & deacons), and a lay group. Father Tom leads both groups. We have 21 parishes and Christ the King Seminary in our Vicariate. They are: Annunciation, Blessed John XXIII, 14 Holy Helpers, Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady Help of Christians, Our Lady of Pompeii, Queen of Martyrs, Queen of Heaven, Sacred Heart, St. Barnabas, St. Gabriel, St. George, St. James/St. Augustine, St. Josephat, St. John Gualbert, St. John the Baptist, St. John Vianney, St. Mary of the Assumption, St. Philip the Apostle & St. Vincent de Paul. Each parish is asked to have a representative and an alternate. Our parish representative is: Paul Chlebowski, and the alternate is Jack Murdoch. Their term of membership is 2 years, renewable.
